Meet Fernanda: From Mexico City to St. Louis with Love, Mission, and Purpose

I was born and raised in Mexico City, surrounded by a big, noisy, and loving family. Even though I was an only child, life was never lonely with so many cousins, uncles, and aunts around. My furry buddy, Atreyu, a 16-year-old dog, has been my sidekick for as long as I can remember.

I attended La Salle University, where I studied Communication Science. One of the most significant experiences I had in college was participating in “missions” to underserved towns in Mexico. We lived with local families for two weeks, assisting them with daily tasks, keeping them company, and being there for whatever they needed. We had no phones, barely any water for showering, and slept in sleeping bags. It was a challenging experience, but it showed me a different side of life and helped shape me into the person I am today.

After graduating, I continued learning, picking up more skills in Corporate Communications and Storytelling and Leadership. My career journey began at Bunge Mexico. Starting as an intern, I quickly became a full-time employee. This place is etched in my heart, not only for being my first job but also as the place where I met my wonderful husband.

Seeking new challenges, I moved on to Profuturo, a financial company where I led internal communications. Profuturo championed a healthy, active lifestyle, encouraging employees to participate in sports. They supported my participation in triathlons, an experience that taught me a lot about perseverance and personal strength. I completed three triathlons in Acapulco, Guadalajara, and Mexico City.

Life took a significant turn when my husband was transferred to Bunge Limited in St. Louis, MO. With love, adventure, and a hint of sadness, we left our families and dogs behind and moved to the U.S. almost four years ago to start our married life. This move marked the beginning of our journey in St. Louis.

In St. Louis, my first job was with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as the Marketing and Program Manager. This role not only introduced me to the vibrant local community but also gave me invaluable friends and connections. Feeling ready for a new adventure, I joined Reach Strategies, where I found a role that combines my passion for communications, marketing, and a noble cause—advocating for the adoption of electric vehicles to have cleaner air and thus a better world for us all.

Now settled in our new home with our two corgis, Boba Fett and Ahsoka, life in St. Louis is everything we could have dreamed of. My husband, Beto, is truly my everything; he has stood by me through the toughest and happiest times, offering unwavering support and love. In our spare time or on vacation, you can definitely find us watching Disney movies, visiting Disneyland and/or Disney World, or, of course, spending time with our naughty corgis.

I’m filled with gratitude for every experience, challenge, and joy that has shaped me. I’m humbled by the love and support of my family and excited for what the future holds.
